In 1980, Mr Francis Goh bought up a small 3 year old factory that produced tofu in fits and starts. It was housed in a single Government built standard terraced factory unit in Aljunied area in Singapore. Assisted by Mrs Goh, they set about putting the tiny operation into good working order. Soon the first hygienically packed pasteurized silken tofu, in hygienically sealed boxes and in tubes were introduced and readily available all over Singapore.
By 1982 the operations ran out of working space and moved to new premises with floor area of more than 350 square metres at the new industrial estate in Ang Mo Kio. They took the opportunity to re-plan the production line. New, automated equipment were acquired for the production of 4 main products. These were Japanese Silken Tofu, Traditional Chinese Tofu, Tau Kwa, and Tofu Puff.
Hygiene and Quality From the beginning hygiene and quality were set as the company’s first priorities. Painstaking care was taken to understand and secure each step of the production process to ensure an uncompromising healthy and high quality final product. The packing style was modern for its time and soon in the local markets Unicurd’s products became synonymous with quality. Three years later Unicurd took over a factory unit next door and got itself a little more elbow room to meet growing customer demands.
By the mid 1990’s it was time for another move. On a plot of land of nearly 4000 square metre, a new factory was designed specifically for the production of tofu. A new production line incorporating the latest in tofu producing technology, and modified to Unicurd’s specifications was ordered from Japan. In 1996 Unicurd shifted all its operations to this new premise in a clean food processing industrial area in Senoko, in the northern part of Singapore.
Dedicated Staff Cleanliness of the physical environment and modern equipment have to be matched with staff trained and committed to the mission of making good, clean quality tofu for the masses. Unicurd supports this with a good framework of modern food safety management systems that meet international standards. At the same time we set out to acquire specialist knowledge of soybeans and the tofu making process.
For our Customers With these formulae in place, product range was expanded, quality went up, and our customer base grew. First exports were made into the neighboring countries in South East Asia, then into Europe, the Middle East, the USA, and even to New Zealand. Today customers identify the Unicurd brand as being the first to bring clean hygienic tofu to South East Asia, as the Brand with the widest range of top quality tofu products, and, as clean, safe food.
